Lester Joseph Gillis, better known to the world as Baby Face Nelson, was among the most notorious bank robbers in America in the 1930s. He was nicknamed so due to his youthful appearance and small frame. His criminal career started early; by the time he was 14, he was proficient in stealing cars and tires, bootlegging, and even armed robbery, operating in a gang of juvenile ruffians in Chicago. Even though he joined up with the likes of Al Capone and other established criminals, he soon parted company as even they found his violent nature too much to handle. From labor racketeering and bootlegging, Baby Face Nelson took to robbing banks and a life of extremely violent crime, not hesitating to kill police officers and even FBI agents on his trail, in bloody encounters. After the death of Dillinger with whom he associated for a couple of bank heists, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), declared him to be Public Enemy Number One. His end came in a violent shootout with FBI agents. A dedicated family man, he is infamous for having killed the maximum number of FBI agents in the line of duty.
