Benjamin Siegel, or Bugsy, was an infamous American gangster. He was one of the most infamous and feared gangsters of his time. He became a bootlegger during the prohibition period and slowly drifted towards gambling. Thereafter, he moved to California and became a dreaded hitman. The media described him as a handsome and charismatic man; he slowly became one of the celebrity-gangsters. He was instrumental in the development of Las Vegas strip, and had a strong hold over the functioning of American mafia. He was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, into a family of Jewish immigrants. He aspired to become rich and took the shortcut - the life of crime. During his rise as a feared gangster in the 20’s and 30’s, he was involved in several high profile murders. Once he settled his hotel and casino business, he befriended many American film stars to further grow his influence. He was murdered on June 20, 1947, but his killer could not be found. He is, however, believed to have been killed by his own syndicate.
