Peter George Peterson was a successful American investment banker who held prominent positions in his career. He served as United States Secretary of Commerce under the Nixon administration, was chairman and CEO of Bell & Howell, and later held similar roles at Lehman Brothers. In 1985, he co-founded The Blackstone Group, a private equity firm, where he served as chairman. Peterson also chaired the Council on Foreign Relations for more than two decades and established The Peter G. Peterson Foundation to advocate for fiscal austerity.
