He played a key role in the automotive industry by creating one of the earliest mass-production feasible American automobiles. Haynes is also known for inventing the metal alloy stellite and co-discovering martensitic stainless steel. Additionally, he had success in the natural gas sector, overseeing the construction of the first long-distance natural gas pipeline in the U.S. Haynes established the Haynes Stellite Company, renowned for producing innovative alloys, which he later merged with Union Carbide. Despite encountering financial challenges during the 1920s recession, Haynes continued to be active in philanthropy and politics.
