Description:
(Philanthropist) William Morris, 1st Viscount Nuffield, was an English motor manufacturer known for founding Morris Motors Limited. He also played a key role in establishing the Nuffield Foundation, the Nuffield Trust, Nuffield College at Oxford, and contributing to the creation of Nuffield Health. His factories in Oxford were important employers, but faced labor disputes in the 1920s and 1930s due to poor working conditions. Despite Morris' personal views, which included anti-union and anti-Semitic sentiments, the workers in his factories helped spur left-wing political activism in Oxford during that time.
