(Painter) Al Held, an American Abstract expressionist painter, was recognized for his large scale Hard-edge paintings. Over the course of his career, he underwent various stylistic shifts, moving from abstract expressionism in the 1950s to a geometric style in the 1960s, and ultimately focusing on vibrant geometric space in the 1980s. In addition to his artistic pursuits, he was a professor of art at Yale University from 1963 to 1980. Held's work stood apart from prevailing trends, evolving independently to showcase his inventive and distinctive painting approach.
