Claude Lorrain was a notable French artist of the Baroque era who achieved prominence as a leading landscapist during his time in Italy. He is recognized for his landscape paintings that often featured small figures from biblical or mythological stories. Lorrain introduced innovations such as sunlight effects and created numerous drawings and studies that had a profound influence on other artists. Initially part of the Roman School, he later became popular among English collectors.
