Trained by his father, Jean Clouet, he closely emulated his father's artistic style. François served as groom of the chamber and painter in ordinary to the king, earning the nickname 'Janet'. His works include portraits of prominent individuals such as Francis I, Catherine de' Medici, and Mary, Queen of Scots. Additionally, he contributed to the creation of death masks for royal funerals.
