Mark Tobey

Mark Tobey, an influential American painter, was known for his densely structured compositions inspired by Asian calligraphy, resembling Abstract Expressionism. A founder of the Northwest School, Tobey had a strong influence on his peers and was widely recognized in the United States and Europe for his work. Mostly self-taught, he also founded the art department at The Cornish School. Tobey's travels and conversion to the Baháʼí Faith were significant aspects of his life and work.
