Dionne Brand is a highly acclaimed Canadian poet, novelist, essayist, and documentarian. She served as Toronto's third Poet Laureate, making history as the first Black Poet Laureate in the city. Brand has been recognized for her exceptional contributions to literature, receiving prestigious awards including the Governor General's Award for Poetry, the Trillium Prize for Literature, the Pat Lowther Award for Poetry, the Harbourfront Writers' Prize, and the Toronto Book Award. In 2017, she was admitted to the Order of Canada. Currently residing in Toronto, Brand continues to make a significant impact in the literary world.
