Mirjana "Mira" Marković was a Serbian politician and academic recognized for leading the far-left Yugoslav United Left (JUL) party. She held considerable sway during her husband Slobodan Milošević's presidency, earning her monikers such as "The Red Witch" and the "Lady Macbeth of Belgrade." Marković encountered legal troubles, including allegations of office misconduct, prompting her escape from Belgrade in 2003. She resided in political asylum in Moscow until her passing in 2019.
