Jean O'Leary was a prominent American lesbian and gay rights activist known for her significant contributions to the LGBTQ rights movement. She founded the Lesbian Feminist Liberation group, co-directed the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force, and played a key role in establishing National Coming Out Day. O'Leary also organized historic meetings of gay leaders at the White House and advocated for LGBTQ rights within organizations like NOW. Prior to her activism, she had a background as a Roman Catholic religious sister and later wrote about her experiences in an anthology.
