(Nationalist) Lolita Lebrón was a Puerto Rican nationalist known for her involvement in revolutionary actions against American presence in Puerto Rico. She organized attacks in the United States, leading a group that carried out an armed assault on the United States Capitol in 1954. Lebrón was convicted and imprisoned for 25 years before receiving clemency from President Jimmy Carter in 1979. After her release, she remained active in pro-independence activities, advocating for Puerto Rican sovereignty and protesting the presence of a United States Navy base at Vieques.
