Donna Shalala is an accomplished American politician and academic with a prestigious career in government and education. She has served in various high-ranking positions in both the Carter and Clinton administrations, including as a U.S. Representative. Shalala is a recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom and has established herself as a respected leader in the academic field, holding a PhD and working as a professor before assuming key roles at Hunter College, the University of Wisconsin–Madison, and the University of Miami. In addition, she has served as the United States Secretary of Health and Human Services and as president of the Clinton Foundation.
