Hussein-Ali Montazeri

Grand Ayatollah Hussein-Ali Montazeri was a prominent Iranian Shia Islamic theologian known for his role in the Iranian Revolution and as one of the highest-ranking authorities in Shia Islam. He was an advocate for democracy and human rights, but fell out with Ayatollah Khomeini over government policies he believed violated people's rights. Despite being placed under house arrest, Montazeri remained politically influential in Qom, where he continued to criticize the Iranian government's policies and advocate for various rights in the country.
