She gained global attention for her arrest, imprisonment, and torture in Egypt after raising a rainbow flag at a concert. Living with PTSD from her time in prison, she eventually sought asylum in Canada. In addition to her activism, Hegazi was a prolific writer who used her voice to denounce injustice and discrimination.
