Description:
(American Activist, Educator and Professor) Autherine Juanita Lucy made history as the first African-American student to attend the University of Alabama in 1956. Despite initially facing expulsion, her courageous actions resulted in the resignation of the university's President Oliver Carmichael. Lucy's dedication to equality and justice continued as she returned to the university as a master's student. In 2010, a clock tower was erected on the University of Alabama's campus in her honor, acknowledging her pivotal role in advancing civil rights.
