Michael Schwerner, an American civil rights activist, dedicated himself to promoting voting registration among African Americans in Mississippi. Working as a field worker for the Congress of Racial Equality (CORE), Schwerner faced danger alongside his colleagues James Chaney and Andrew Goodman.
