(Civil Rights Activist) Michael Schwerner, an American civil rights activist, dedicated himself to promoting voting registration among African Americans in Mississippi. Working as a field worker for the Congress of Racial Equality (CORE), Schwerner faced danger alongside his colleagues James Chaney and Andrew Goodman. Tragically, he was killed by members of the Ku Klux Klan in Neshoba County. Schwerner's courageous advocacy for civil rights had a lasting impact on American history.
