G. D. Agrawal

Guru das Agrawal, also known as Sant Swami Sanand and Sant Swami Gyan Swaroop Sanand, was an Indian environmentalist, engineer, religious leader, monk, and professor. He was a notable figure in the Ganga Mahasabha organization, founded by Madan Mohan Malviya in 1905. Agrawal was recognized for his series of fasts aimed at stopping various projects along the River Ganga. His 2009 fast successfully prevented the damming of the Bhagirathi River. Agrawal dedicated his life to advocating for the cleanliness and preservation of the Ganga, ultimately sacrificing his life for this cause.
