Charles J. Moore is an accomplished environmental activist and researcher with over two decades of experience investigating plastic pollution in the oceans. He is renowned for his discovery of the Great Pacific Garbage Patch in the North Pacific Gyre and for co-founding the Algalita Marine Research and Education Foundation. Moore has led numerous expeditions to study plastic pollution, such as the JUNK Raft project and research trips to collect water samples for plastic content analysis. In 2020, he established The Moore Institute for Plastic Pollution Research, which concentrates on micro- and nano-plastics in the environment.
