Pat Toomey has served as the United States Senator from Pennsylvania from January 2011 to January 2023. A Harvard College alumnus, he began his career working for Chemical Bank and Morgan, Grenfell & Co., and then launched his own restaurant with his brothers. He later stepped into politics with the Republican Party and served as the Member of the US House of Representatives from Pennsylvania's 15th district from 1999 to 2005. As a Senator, he did not always vote with the Republican leadership. He supported background checks on gun sales and did not initially support Donald Trump in his presidential campaign. He was re-elected as a Senator in 2016. He left the Senate in 2023, at the end of his tenure, and joined the board of the private firm Apollo Global Management soon after. A father of three, Toomey stays with his wife and children in Pennsylvania.
