American actor Gabrielle Carteris soared to fame with her iconic role of Andrea Zuckerman in Beverly Hills, 90210, which became one of the longest-running one-hour TV shows in history. Interested in the performing arts since her teens, she was trained in ballet, mime, and acting. She later made her mark in trade unionism, too, and was elected as the president of SAG-AFTRA, the trade union that has thousands of actors and workers of the US film industry as its members. Carteris has often been vocal about issues such as gender bias and ageism in the entertainment industry and has also fought for equity of pay and for the rights of minorities, such as Spanish-speaking workers.
