Alfred Douglas was a British poet and journalist who was known for his controversial homosexual relationship with Irish poet and playwright Oscar Wilde. The relationship started when he was studying at 'Oxford.' When Douglas's father learned about it, he forced him to drop out, which hampered his career in turn. Douglas rebelled against his father to maintain the relationship. However, Douglas's relationship with Wilde was a tumultuous one due to the former's deviant behavior. They, however, never broke up. Douglas's father began humiliating Wilde publicly in an attempt to keep him away. One such incident led his father and Wilde into a legal feud, which left the latter bankrupt and imprisoned. Following Wilde’s release, Douglas had a brief reunion with him. After Wilde's death, Douglas married Olive Custance in 1902 and had a son. The marriage was struck by his conversion to Roman Catholicism. Douglas had started the High-Catholic magazine 'Plain English,' after his separation. Through the magazine, he would glorify Wilde's homosexuality and express views anti-semitic views. Douglas was imprisoned for libeling Winston Churchill and eventually died of heart failure.
