Rick Carlisle is an American former basketball player who currently serves as the head coach of the ‘National Basketball Association’ (NBA) team ‘Dallas Mavericks.’ Born in Ogdensburg, New York, Rick began playing basketball as a teenager. He was a tall kid. Thus, he thought basketball was the ideal sport for him. Following his high-school graduation, he joined the ‘University of Maine’ and played 2 years of college basketball. He later transferred to the ‘University of Virginia’ and played with the ‘Virginia Cavaliers,’ serving as the team’s co-captain briefly in the early 1980s. He was selected by the ‘Boston Celtics’ in the ‘NBA Draft’ in 1984 and ended up winning the ‘NBA Championship’ for his team in 1986. In 1989, he joined the ‘New Jersey Nets’ as their assistance coach, and in the 2001–2002 season, he was finally hired as the head coach by the ‘Detroit Pistons.’ He led his team to the ‘Eastern Conference Finals.’ He served the ‘Indiana Pacers’ as their head coach in 2003–2004 and coached the team for the next two seasons as well. In 2008, he was finally hired as the head coach of the ‘NBA’ team ‘Dallas Mavericks,’ a position he still holds due to consistent good performance by his team at many ‘NBA’ events.
