(British Civil Engineer and Academic) Civil engineer Reginald Coates initially served as a Royal Engineers officer during World War II. He later also taught at the University of Nottingham, before taking over the planning of the new building of the institute’s faculty of engineering. He also served the Institution of Civil Engineers as its president.
