Gladys Berejiklian

Description: (45th Premier of New South Wales (2017 - 2021))

Retired Australian politician and former Liberal Party member Gladys Berejiklian served as the 45th Premier of New South Wales and also scripted history as the first elected female NSW Premier and the first female Liberal Premier. As a Premier, she was lauded for her efforts in strengthening the economic position of New South Wales. She also worked relentlessly for the introduction of reproductive health reforms and bushfire management in New South Wales. However, her relationship with fellow Liberal Party MP Daryl Maguire stirred up a controversy and caused an investigation to be launched for corrupt conduct and breach of public trust. This was followed by her resignation from the post of Premier. She subsequently joined the telecommunication giant Optus as an executive and stated that she did not intend to return to politics. Often questioned about her single and childless status, she has spoken about how merit would decide her fate in politics, while her personal life should not be a concern for people.
