Rod Taylor was an Australia-born American film and television actor with more than fifty feature films to his credit. Trained as a painter, he decided to pursue acting after watching Sir Laurence Olivier play King Richard III. He began his career as a stage and radio artist. At the age of 24, he debuted in Australian films; but shortly after that he moved to the USA, where by the following year he began receiving an array of side roles. At the age of 30, he got his first lead role, when he played H. G. Wells in ‘The Time Machine’; the role instantly elevated him to stardom. In spite of his popularity in the Hollywood, he remained an Australian citizen till 1982. He died of a heart attack four days short of his 58th birthday, at his home in California.
