Reg E. Cathey was an American actor who was best recognized for playing authority figures and menacing villains. He was known for his roles as Martin Querns in the TV series ‘Oz,’ Norman Wilson in the series ‘The Wire,’ and Dr. Franklin Storm in the movie ‘Fantastic Four.’ He was also famous for his portrayal of Freddy Hayes in the thriller web TV series ‘House of Cards’ that earned him three Emmy Award nominations, including a win in 2015. A multifaceted man, Cathey was more than just an actor. He was also a talented musician and played a baritone saxophone in his spare time. Born into a family with no background in acting, Cathey studied theatre at the University of Michigan prior to launching his acting career. He later taught drama to students in Tuba City, Arizona. The great actor died in February 2018 at the age of 59 due to lung cancer. He left behind a rich acting legacy and his incredible performances will always be remembered by the American film fraternity.
