Palaniappan Chidambaram or P.Chidambaram is an Indian politician who held the post of Union Minister of Finance and Union Minister of Home Affairs of India in the UPA government. Despite being from an affluent business family, he chose to stay away from the family business and began his career as a legal practitioner. He built a successful career as a lawyer and practiced in both High Court and Supreme Court. His political career began when he joined the Congress in 1972. He was elected for the Lok Sabha seat for the first time from Tamil Nadu’s Sivaganga constituency. He won from the same constituency seven times. In between, he left Congress to join another party TMC and even formed his own political party. However, later he merged his party with Congress. He presently serves as the Member of Parliament of Rajya Sabha.
