Joie Susannah Lee is an American actress, film producer and screenplay writer. She is known for her roles in her brother Spike Lee’s movies like ‘She’s Gotta Have It,’ ‘School Daze,’ ‘Do the Right Thing,’ among others. Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, she grew up in an atmosphere of music and literature. Her parents always supported and encouraged her acting endeavors. Lee began her acting career with her brother Spike Lee’s film ‘She’s Gotta Have It’ and has been a part of all his films; critics have acclaimed these movies as ‘poignant depiction of contemporary black society.’ She has, however, also worked in films outside of her family productions, including James Dearden’s ‘A Kiss Before Dying,’ Jim Jarmusch’s ‘Coffee & Cigarettes,’ and many others. With her natural acting style, she brings her special touch to the roles which otherwise are just characters to assist the narrative. Lee has also performed on the stage, and in several TV series, including ‘Zero Tolerance,’ ‘Rectify,’ and ‘Broad City.’ She is the co-founder of ‘Child Hood Productions’ and also a screenplay writer for films and TV shows.
