Edward Albert, born as Edward Laurence Heimberger, was an American actor best known for his breakout role as Don Baker, a blind man, in the comedy-drama film ‘Butterflies Are Free.’ The role earned him the Golden Globe Award for New Star of the Year – Actor. Born in California to actor cum activist Eddie Albert and Mexican actress Margo, Albert was himself an advocate for preserving the heritage, environment, and rights of Native Americans. He served on California Native American Heritage Commission and the California Coastal Commission. In terms of education, he attended Oxford University and studied psychology at UCLA. Married to actress Katherine Woodville, Albert fathered one child, a daughter, during his lifetime. In his last years, he cared for his father who had Alzheimer's disease and died in 2005 at the age of 99. He himself died in September 2006 from lung cancer, surviving his late father by only sixteen months.
