Manoj Nelliyattu Shyamalan, more popularly known as M Night Shyamalan, is an American movie director and scriptwriter. Born in India, Shyamalan grew up in Pennsylvania, U.S.A. He rose to fame with 1999-psychological horror film ‘The Sixth Sense’ starring Bruce Willis and Toni Collette. His work earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Director in 2000. His previous movies included ‘Praying with Anger’ and ‘Wide Awake’. After the success of ‘The Sixth Sense’, he teamed up with Willis again for the science-fiction film ‘The Unbreakable’. His other notable films include ‘Signs’ and ‘The Village.’ Among the notable aspects of his oeuvre is his preference to locate many of his films in the town he grew up in: Pennsylvania, Philadelphia. His successes in the first decade of the new century was followed by a string of critically panned films. Besides direction, Shyamalan has also been involved in film production, and his production credits include the horror flick ‘Devil’ and the science-fiction series ‘Wayward Pines.’ Apart from this, he is also a basketball enthusiast and holds the season ticket for Philadelphia 76ers.
