Paul Ryan is an American politician and the 54th Speaker of the United States House of Representatives. A fifth-generation Wisconsin native, Ryan was elected as the House Speaker in 2015 and has held the position since then. Paul Ryan is the youngest speaker to ever assume office in 150 years. He was the Republican Party nominee for Vice President of the United States in 2012. He has been a member of U.S. House of Representatives since 1999. He also served as the House Budget Committee chairman for four years. Despite strongly opposing several of Donald Trump’s policies and statements he campaigned for him in 2016 which eventually led to his re-election to the Senate. After Ryan assumed office as a speaker, he played a major part passing the major tax reform bill in 2017. In April 2018, Ryan announced his retirement from Congress.
