Soupy Sales was a noted American radio and television personality who regaled his audience with his comic sketches for around 50 years. He was raised and educated in Huntington before he started serving in the United States Navy. Later, he earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism and started working as a scriptwriter and disc jockey at a local radio station. He then moved to Cincinnati where he made his television debut. However, it was in Detroit that he attained a celebrity status for his midday children’s show ‘Lunch with Soupy Sales’. At the age of 34, he moved to Los Angeles where he continued to present his popular show. Concurrently, he began to appear in movies, television productions and game shows. Later, he moved his show ‘Lunch with Soupy Sales’ to New York City where it began to be syndicated. In his later years, he co-wrote his memoir and also published a collection of jokes.
