Anne Gwynne

Description: (Actress)

Anne Gwynne was an American actress. She appeared in a string of major studio productions, mostly during the 1930s and 1940s, most notably in films by Universal Pictures. She brought her bubbly persona to the big screen. Having begun her career with modeling, Anne moved to acting with her earliest professional roles in small theatre productions and short films. She soon became a regular genre actor with appearances in science fiction, musical comedy and Westerns, among other genres. However, it was a series of roles that she played in horror films, produced by Universal Pictures during the 1940s, that made her presence formidable in the American film landscape. Before Anne’s entry, horror films were dominated by women who acted by adopting English or European mannerisms. However, Anne changed the rules by channeling her American self in these movies. Anne acted throughout the tumultuous years of the Second World War, and that made her a pin-up idol for the troops stationed abroad. She was a pioneer in television, appearing in history’s first filmed television series, ‘Public Prosecutor.’
