(Composer) Helmut Lachenmann is a German composer of contemporary classical music. He started singing in his local church choir as a child and started composing music as a teenager. He received his training under composers Johann Nepomuk David and Luigi Nono. He is best known for his "instrumental musique concrète". He received the Ernst von Siemens Music Prize in 1997.
