Julián Castro is an American politician who served as the 16th United States secretary of housing and urban development (2014 to 2017) and the fifth Hispanic mayor of his native city of San Antonio, Texas (2009 to 2014). A law graduate, he initially began his private practice at a firm. The immigrant background of Castro’s family motivated him to enter politics and serve his community better. He is the youngest city councilman to have served as the mayor of the city. In that capacity, Castro introduced a program for the betterment of various communities. Representing the 'Democratic Party,' he stepped down as a mayor to serve the cabinet of President Barack Obama in 2014. On behalf of the department of 'Housing and Urban Development,' Castro majorly worked for housings rights of the minorities and citizenship of immigrants. He was a partner in Hillary Clinton's run for the 2016 presidential campaign, during which he was accused of violating the 'Hatch Act.' Castro was a ‘Democratic’ nominee for the 2020 presidential run, but he withdrew his candidature later, as his campaign failed to draw attention.
