Dub Taylor was an American character actor. With a characteristic grizzled appearance and a trademark bowler hat, he worked in around 500 films, mostly Western and comedies, in his career spanning nearly 6 decades. Born in Virginia, he was raised in Georgia and started his acting career with Vaudeville. His ability to play xylophone got him his first film, ‘You Can’t Take it with You.’ He was known more for his role of comical sidekick (Cannonball) of the cowboy hero, which he repeated in over 50 Western films with Bill Elliott, Charles Starrett and others. The Westerns, wherein he played Cannonball, included ‘The Wildcat of Tucson,’ ‘The Lone Prairie,’ and ‘Silver Trails.’ Later, he played a variety of roles in various genres, including drama, comedy, and crime. Taylor is remembered for his role as ‘Ivan Moss’ in the crime film ‘Bonnie and Clyde.’ He continued working even in his old age and frequently appeared on various TV series. Taylor was married to Florence Heffernan and they had two children. He died of heart attack at the age of 87.
