Kyle Lowry is an America professional basketball player who is presently affiliated with the Toronto Raptors of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Having been part of the Raptors’ roster since 2012, he played a pivotal role in the team’s appearance in the 2013-14 playoffs and their first Atlantic Division title in seven years. He was also one of the key players in the Raptors’ massively successful 2015-16 season, during which they registered 56 wins and subsequently made their inaugural Eastern Conference Finals appearance. A native of Pennsylvania, he grew up in one of the most violent neighbourhoods in Philadelphia. Lowry had a turbulent childhood and the basketball court provided him with the ideal refuge. He studied at Cardinal Dougherty High School where he was the team’s foremost point guard. Lowry later attended Villanova University. During the 2006 NBA draft, he was chosen by the Memphis Grizzlies as their 24th overall pick. Lowry spent three years with the Grizzlies before he was traded to the Houston Rockets for whom he played four seasons. Regarded as one of the greatest players of his generation, Lowry has been selected to NBA All-Star team four times. In 2016, he was a member of the gold-medal-winning US basketball delegation to the Rio Summer Olympics.
