Lisa Nicole Lopes, known by her stage name Left Eye, was a prominent American rapper, singer, songwriter, and producer. She was best known as a member of the groundbreaking girl group TLC, alongside Tionne "T-Boz" Watkins and Rozonda "Chilli" Thomas. Lopes served as the group's rapper and contributed background vocals. She was also credited as a co-writer for many of TLC's songs. Interested in music from an early age, Lopes began composing songs before the age of ten. She formed a musical trio with her siblings, performing gospel songs at local events and churches. In the early 1990s, she joined forces with Watkins and Crystal Jones to form what would eventually become TLC. After Jones was replaced by Thomas, the group went on to achieve massive commercial success. TLC scored nine top-ten hits on the Billboard Hot 100 and won four Grammy Awards. Their breakthrough second album, CrazySexyCool, earned critical acclaim and won them a Grammy Award. Some of their most successful singles include "Creep," "Waterfalls," "No Scrubs," and "Unpretty." Lopes was especially known for her unique style, outspoken personality, and creative vision. Despite her talent and success, tragedy struck in 2002 when Lopes died in a car accident in La Ceiba, Honduras, at the age of 30. Her untimely death was a huge loss to the music industry and her fans worldwide.
