Jim Thome is an American former baseball player who played professional baseball in the major league as third baseman, first baseman, and designated hitter. In his illustrious career of 21 years, from 1991 to 2012, Thome played in ‘Major League Baseball’ (MLB) for 22 seasons, playing for six big clubs. Thome started his career with ‘Cleveland Indians’ in 1989, playing at a rookie level for their ‘Gulf Coast League’ team. He went on to play for major clubs such as ‘Philadelphia Phillies,’ ‘Chicago White Sox,’ ‘Los Angeles Dodgers,’ ‘Minnesota Twins,’ and ‘Baltimore Orioles.’ A flamboyant hitter, Thome scored 612 home runs, 2,328 hits, and 1699 runs batted in, with a batting average of .276. In 2011, he became the eighth player in the history of the game to hit 600 home runs - a mammoth achievement in baseball, and the first to hit numbers 599 and 600 in the same game. Thome received the prestigious ‘Roberto Clemente Award’ in 2002 and was inducted into the ‘National Baseball Hall of Fame’ in 2018. Apart from being considered as one of the greats of the game, Thome is also a known philanthropist.
