Missy Franklin is an American swimmer, best known for winning five Olympic gold medals. The multiple-record holder was only 17 when she won five gold medals, acing both the 100-meter and 200-meter backstroke events at the 2012 ‘Summer Olympics.’ She also holds the world record in the 200-meter backstroke (long course) event. Franklin, who started her swimming career at a tender age, has won 27 international medals in total: 16 gold medals, 6 silver medals, and 5 bronze medals. She held the record of winning the maximum number of gold medals (11) in women’s swimming, a record she made at the ‘World Aquatics Championships,’ before it was broken by Katie Ledecky in 2017. Her achievements are not only limited to winning medals. She was named the ‘World Swimmer of the Year’ and the ‘American Swimmer of the Year’ in 2012. She also won the ‘FINA Swimmer of the Year Award’ in both 2011 and 2012. She has also competed in many coveted swimming events, such as the ‘Pan Pacific Swimming Championships,’ the ‘US National Championships,’ and the ‘Summer Olympics.’ Missy had a cameo in the Owen Wilson-starrer ‘The Internship.’ She also made an appearance in the popular TV series ‘Pretty Little Liars’ in 2013.
