Description: (Actor, Radio Personality and Singer Known for His Role as ‘Ben Cartwright’ in TV Series ‘Bonanza’)

Lorne Hyman Greene was a Canadian actor, radio personality, and singer. Even though it has been more than four decades since his 14-year stint as Ben Cartwright in the TV series ‘Bonanza’ ended, this larger than life star continues to loom large for his brilliant performance. Although he was already active as an actor, it was his appearance in one episode of the TV series ‘Wagon Train’ in 1959 that brought him to the attention of the ‘Bonanza’ producers. Even before he joined the ‘Bonanza’ team, he was popular amongst the viewers as the lead in ‘Sailor of Fortune’ in 1957. Lorne was also a singer who collaborated on two ‘Bonanza’ albums with co-stars Dan Blocker, Michael Landon, and Pernell Roberts. As a solo artiste, he recorded the album ‘Welcome to the Ponderosa’, which reached No. 35 on the Billboard chart. He had several popular singles to his credit, including ‘As Time Goes By’ and ‘You Make Me Feel So Young.’ Decorated with the honor of an Officer of the Order of Canada’, Greene was also the recipient of several other awards. Canada Post honored him by featuring him on a 51-cent postage stamp in 2006.
