Billy Beane is a former American baseball player, who currently serves as the Executive Vice President of Baseball Operations for the ‘Oakland Athletics,’ an American professional baseball team. He is also a minority owner of ‘Oakland Athletics,’ often referred to as the ‘A’s,’ a team which competes in the ‘Major League Baseball’ (MLB) as an ‘American League West’ (AL West) division member. In 1980, he was picked up by the ‘New York Mets’ in the first round of the MLB draft. His professional career saw him playing as an outfielder in MLB from 1984 to 1989, for various American professional baseball teams, such as the ‘New York Mets,’ the ‘Detroit Tigers,’ the ‘Oakland Athletics,’ and the ‘Minnesota Twins.’ He played both in the minor and the major leagues. In 1990, he began his new journey in the sports, in an outfield role, when he was inducted in the ‘A’s’ as a scout. Following a three-year stint as a scout, he had a gradual rise in the ‘A’s,’ being promoted to the role of the assistant general manager in 1993, to the role of the general manager in 1997, and finally, to the role of the executive vice president in 2015. As the general manager of the ‘A’s,’ he remained successful in applying the empirical analysis of baseball, known as sabermetrics, which helped in bolstering the team. This approach garnered widespread recognition when Michael Lewis' book ‘Moneyball,’ based on Beane's use of sabermetrics, was published in 2003. A film based on the book was released in 2011, with Brad Pitt starring as Beane.
