Frances Shand Kydd

Description: (Mother of Diana, Princess of Wales)

Frances Shand Kydd was a Viscountess who was widely recognized as the mother of Diana, Princess of Wales. Born into a noble family, she married Viscount Althorp John Spencer when she was only 18 years old. She suffered the loss of her son early in her life and couldn’t conceive a male child immediately after the demise of her son, which strained her relationship with her husband. When she was a mother of four young children, she left her husband for another man at the time when her youngest child was only three years old. She subsequently lost a bitter battle for custody, was ostracized by her own family members and eventually got separated from her second husband, who left her for another woman. She suffered another blow when her youngest daughter Diana died at the age of 36 in a car accident. She spent her later years in solitude, even though her reclusive life was interrupted due to the controversy surrounding the death of her daughter. She found solace in the Roman Catholic Church and was involved in a number of charities.
