Roger Taylor is an English multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter, and musician, best known as the drummer of the legendary rock band ‘Queen.’ Roger was born in Norfolk, England, and moved around the country as a kid, continuing his academics in different schools across various cities. He formed his first band when he was 7 years old. He joined a semi-professional school band named ‘The Reaction’ when he was 15 years old. Without any serious intent of pursuing a full-time career in music, Roger went to London to study dentistry. However, he later enrolled at the ‘East London Polytechnic’ to study biology, eventually obtaining a BSc. He came across an advertisement for a drummer for the band ‘Smile.’ Roger joined the band in 1968. He then joined the band ‘Queen’ in the early 1970s. Starting with the 1973 album ‘Queen,’ Taylor played the drums in more than a dozen of the band’s albums. Roger also played as a solo artist and released his debut solo album, ‘Fun in Space,’ in 1981. He has since released four more solo albums, the latest one being ‘Fun on Earth’ in 2013. UK-based radio station ‘Planet Rock’ conducted a poll in 2005, in which listeners voted Roger as the 8th greatest drummer of all time in the classic-rock genre.
