Dee Dee Warwick was an American soul and R&B singer. Born into a musical family of African-American, Native American, Brazilian, and Dutch descent, she began performing as a session musician with her sister, Dionne, while still studying in school, eventually forming a group called the ‘Gospelaires.’ When she was 17 years old, they caught the attention of the producer of a record company, which led to their successful careers as session musicians. At 21, she released her first solo track. She hit the charts with ‘We're Doing Fine' at 23, scoring her greatest hit, ‘I Want to Be with You,’ the following year. Unfortunately luck was not on her side. In spite of her talent, she only had a sporadic run of small hits. This was mainly because she never had any backing from her labels. Nonetheless, she continued to work almost till her death, returning to session music in her later years.
