Gregg Allman was an American singer cum song-writer who co-founded the American rock band ‘The Allman Brothers Band’. He had an interesting journey as a musician—he grew up with a love for R&B music and later on fused the genre with elements of rock, country, and jazz music to create his unique musical style. He played a major role in the success of his band as he was the vocalist as well as the man behind the keyboard. Allman also wrote lyrics for the band and is primarily credited for the success of their songs ‘Melissa’, ‘Whipping Post’, and ‘I'm No Angel’. Apart from the band, Allman had also released seven solo studio albums during his extensive career that spanned almost six decades. After the untimely death of his brother Duane in a motorcycle crash, Allman continued with the band and later started his solo career as well. His solo career reached its peak during the later stage of his life. He struggled with drug and alcohol abuse for many years which eventually led to liver cancer.
