Tilda Swinton is a famous British actress, model, and artist who has appeared in many well-known films and has won numerous awards for her outstanding performances. Swinton was born in London in a prominent family. Her father was a major general who formerly headed the Household Division in the British Army. Interested in acting from a young age, she began performing on stage when she was still in college. She later joined the Royal Shakespeare Company and made her professional acting debut in the play ‘Measure for Measure’. She later moved to cinema, making her movie debut in the British film ‘Caravaggio’. The other important works in her career include ‘Vanilla Sky’, ‘Constantine’ and ‘Michael Clayton’ for which she won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress as well as the BAFTA Award for Best Actress for her portrayal of Karen Crowder. The film was a commercial success and also earned critical acclaim. Her recent works include a supporting role in the superhero film ‘Doctor Strange’, where she played The Ancient One. A much accomplished actress, she is the recipient of numerous prestigious awards. She was given a special tribute by the Museum of Modern Art in 2013.
