Wade Barrett is an English-American former professional wrestler turned wrestling commentator and actor. Originally named Stuart Alexander Bennett at birth, he took up the ring name Wade Barrett when he entered the world of wrestling. He is currently affiliated with World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) and is a color commentator on the SmackDown brand. A fan of wrestling from an early age, he idolized English wrestler Davey Boy Smith and decided to become a professional wrestler himself. He studied marine biology and took up jobs in other fields while training to become a wrestler. He gained considerable popularity as a champion bare-knuckle boxer when he was in his 20s. He went on to get trained in wrestling by Jon Ritchie and Al Snow. He soon made his debut as a wrestler and participated in numerous events, making a name for himself. He signed a contract with WWE and formed a successful tag team with Paul Burchill, facing the Major Brothers in several matches. His popularity skyrocketed after he won the first season of NXT and gained much prominence as the leader of the villainous faction, The Nexus. He headlined several PPV events for WWE and proceeded to become a five-time Intercontinental Champion. He has since stopped wrestling but is active as a commentator. He is also an occasional actor and has appeared in a few movies.
